PORCELAIN VASES

Chinese interior design uses this kind of screens, as well as folding screens, adorned with incredibly detailed murals, often mythological or historical in theme. Ivory carved figurines, porcelain vases, lacquered fixtures, bamboo, scenic tapestry and wall hangings, all serve to set a mystic and harmonious environment.

WALLPAPER

Exotic and magical, Chinoiserie wallpapers were (and still are) often painted by hand using lustrous hues and fastidious detailing. Deemed one of the most covetable wall coverings available, Chinoiserie wallpaper (real or imitation) can be used in panels, to line the inside of a closet or as a backdrop to display fine china or crystal and are known for fading slowly and elegantly.

Lighting

China offers lighting ideas that blend modern, minimalist aesthetics with traditional elements, including energy-efficient LEDs and smart systems

                    LACQUER CRAFT

Lacquer craft is a traditional art form with rich history and distinct styles originating from different regions of Asia.

Both countries have ancient traditions of lacquerware dating back thousands of years. Artisans create intricate pieces using techniques like carving lacquer (diaoqi), gold inlay (maki-e), and mother-of-pearl inlay (najeonchilgi).

Although not traditional to Chinese interior design, this unique design element flourished in the 18th century and became more widespread in the 19th.

Chinese interior design emphasizes balance, harmony, and a deep connection to nature, drawing on thousands of years of tradition. While traditional Chinese and modern "Neo-Chinese" styles have distinct characteristics, they both prioritize creating a serene and functional living space.

  • Symmetry and order: Layouts are typically symmetrical to create a sense of balance and calm. In traditional homes, the most important structures and ancestors' shrines are centrally located, with secondary elements arranged on either side.

  • Natural materials: The style relies on natural, earthy materials, especially wood. Furniture often uses high-quality hardwoods like rosewood, elm, or walnut and features intricate joinery without nails. Bamboo is also used to symbolize virtue and harmony.
